Our Cat Adoption Process

Animalert’s cat adoption process is designed to ensure (as best as possible) that the correct match is being made for each Animalert cat. For that reason, the foster parent plays a part in the adoption as they know the requirements and the personality of their foster cat best.

How to adopt a cat:

If you are interested in adopting an Animalert cat, below is the process you will be involved in.

Step 1: Adoption Application

Complete the cat adoption online application

Step 2: Phone Screening

Once your adoption application has been received and reviewed, you will be contacted by one of Animalert's Adoption Team members who will match you and your living situation with the most appropriate cat/kitten awaiting adoption. This is an opportunity to go over your adoption application and discuss the Animalert adoption process. We try to respond within 24 hours of receiving the application.

Step 3: Meeting the Feline

If we have a cat match for you, your contact number or email address will be passed along to the foster parent or current guardian of the cat/kitten you have chosen to visit.

The foster parent or guardian will contact you to set up an initial meeting. This will take place at the guardian's home or the foster parent's home. This gives you a chance to meet the cat and give the guardian or foster parent a chance to meet you.

If the cat/kitten is a match, adoption papers will be signed and the adoption fee ($50 to $125) is collected at that time.

Step 4: Probationary Period

Once a cat/kitten is selected, it is placed for a probationary period of 2-3 weeks. During this time, the cat placement volunteer has regular follow up with you to ensure the feline and you are happy with the placement. If it is not working out, the cat/kitten is returned to the previous guardian or foster home and the adoption fee is returned at that time.

Step 5: Finalizing the Adoption

If the placement is deemed a success at the end of the probationary period by you, the the cat placement volunteer and the cat, then we wish you all a long and happy life.

Enjoy a long and happy life with your Animalert cat!
